Tim / Others:
I'm looking for recordings by my great grandfather cornet soloist Lincoln Holroyd.
He was a prominent educator / virtuoso cornetist residing in Utica 1905-1961
Wiki Biography I assembled here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Holroyd
After a year's research, I have discovered he was friends with Herbert Clarke, and made several recordings with Patrick Conway's Band. He also traveled with Conway for one year to Denver, where they were solo and assitant solo cornets for the Denver Municipal Band. Conway also directed him when he served as conductor for the Syracuse Symphony.
Family accounts place him in font of Sousa's band as guest soloist.
Sousa/Conway get-togethers would lend creedence to this.
I do have evidence he was performing as cornet soloist at Young's Pier in Jan. 1905.
Whose band he was with remains a mystery.I suspect Conway's but this predates what other's have cited by a year.
Newspaper entries state that he "assisted him (Conway)on his first Records" with Victor.
To date I can not find a specific reference to which recordings he is on.
Conway's Victor recordings commenced 7/1912.
Does anyone have concert programs /literature that might help?
I'm guessing Willow Grove or Young's Pier Programs might be a source.
Family remembers a framed hand-bill referring to his appearance with Sousa.
Thanks-
Robert Lincoln Hosley
