My grandfather was a Julliard graduate and later conducted at Radio Music Hall for many years. His name was John Dosso. My mother is moving out of her house to mine and I found my grandfathers records. I will just list the names of the top four I took out of a box. They could not have been played in 50 years and look to be in great condition:

Worlds Greatest Operas In six parts, part five in French
FUAST (GOUNOD) act IV
March and Soldiers Chorus

Red Sseal record
RCA Victor
13790-B
FUAST-SALUT, DEMEURE
Jussi Bjooerling, tenor

Show Boat
Columbia masterworks set mm-611

Wieniawski: concerto no 2 in D minor for violin and ochestra
Isaac Stern violin
New York philharmonic
Conducted by Efren Kurtz
Columbia masterworks set mm-656

Beethoven symphony no 7in A major
Musical masterpieces on victor records
(orthophonic recording)

Are these worth anything?

fmblizz on "Black Lambert cylinder record ?????"

Hello group

I am new to the forum and have a question about a new cylinder I picked up. I have never owned a Lampert cylinder and from what I have been told some are quite valuable.

I have over the years seen pink Lamberts in different collection and pretty much know what they look like.

Recently I found a cylinder in an Antique Shop in my area which look different from any that I have.
The cylinder is a two minute cylinder and the lettering on the edge is raised. There is a patent date on July 29, 1902 with a record number of #575. The song is titled "Orch. Overture to Semiramide".

There is a secondary ridge about 1/2 in inside the title end of the cylinder followed by what looks to be some type of cardboard roll to support the playing surface.

I had to sand this secondary ridge a little to get a full play out of the cylinder and it sound very good. I did notice that the actual playing surface might have been a tan or beige color because during the sanding of the interior, I hit the top edge in a couple places and lighter tan color started to bleed/show through.

   Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to sell an opera collection (in addition to the great suggestions on this website), but I don't want to waste my time cataloguing them all since this would be a monumental task without much in return. Most of these records are in great shape. They have minimal to no spindle wear, the box sets all have pristine booklets and/or librettos and the outer jackets are in great shape structurally but aesthically show a little bit of age (minimally worn edges or corners, etc). I'll sell them individually ($0.99 single lp or $3.99 box set) or the entire lot for a reasonable price. Please feel free to call me if you are interested or forward my phone number to someone you know who might be interested. I will be glad to rifle through the collection for something specific if necessary. 585-506-6975.
