I have a complete 2 boxed set of 78's titled 'the Messiah' Columbia Masterworks 1947 neatly tucked away in a safety deposit box and I'm baffled by the seemingly inflated prices these albums list for on eBay. Are they as valuable as that?

I understand this band was mentioned in "Talking Machine World" around 1923. They recorded for Okeh either in Detroit or St. Louis and I'm trying to confirm the date/location etc. and also get a copy of any write-ups concerning this band. Thanks very much for any help.

Tim / Others:

I'm looking for recordings by my great grandfather cornet soloist Lincoln Holroyd.
He was a prominent educator / virtuoso cornetist residing in Utica 1905-1961

Wiki Biography I assembled here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Holroyd

After a year's research, I have discovered he was friends with Herbert Clarke, and made several recordings with Patrick Conway's Band. He also traveled with Conway for one year to Denver, where they were solo and assitant solo cornets for the Denver Municipal Band. Conway also directed him when he served as conductor for the Syracuse Symphony.

Family accounts place him in font of Sousa's band as guest soloist.
Sousa/Conway get-togethers would lend creedence to this.
I do have evidence he was performing as cornet soloist at Young's Pier in Jan. 1905.
Whose band he was with remains a mystery.I suspect Conway's but this predates what other's have cited by a year.

Newspaper entries state that he "assisted him (Conway)on his first Records" with Victor.

To date I can not find a specific reference to which recordings he is on.
Conway's Victor recordings commenced 7/1912.

Does anyone have concert programs /literature that might help?
I'm guessing Willow Grove or Young's Pier Programs might be a source.
Family remembers a framed hand-bill referring to his appearance with Sousa.

Thanks-
Robert Lincoln Hosley

I recently acquired my great grandparents phonograph that was made by the Loverin & Browne Company. I am trying to find out some more information about my phonograph. It works great and has a wonderful sound. Let me know if you know anything about this company and possibly what year this could have been made?
Thanks,

Hi Tim,
I just realize that this was the best way to contact you.

I just want to bring to your attention that I recently found a Thomas Edison Blue Amberol Cylinder Record of Louise & Ferera's "Hawaiian Hula Medley" #3065.

In your article "Frank Ferera -- Hawaiian Guitar Pioneer" you wrote that Hawaiian Hula Medley was released on the Emerson Label in 1916. Are you aware of this song being issued by Edison? If so, do you know which label, (Emerson or Edison) released the Hawaiian Hula Medley first? Nice Website. Thanks. Ron

There is an old song (1959) by Neil Sedaka called "I Go Ape". I don't know if this is it but if you google "Sedaka" and "Go Ape", you will see a few sites that have the lyrics.

One update, they say Edison Re-Creation on the labels. All records have their sleeves and fit neetly in the box. Looks like a basic box that opens at the top w/ a leather handle. Inside the lid is where all the records are listed.

My grandfather recently passed and in his East Brunswick, NJ home, we came accross two boxes of Edison Diamon Disc ReCreation records. The first box opens at the top. The inside of the lid looks like a hand written list of the records inside with a title of Columbia Record Productions (I think that is what it said, I am at work right now). I have to see what the other box reads when I get home. Any idea of what this might be worth?
