Hello

I'm João Fialho from Portugal and i'm doing a work to a Master degree in Museology, and i have to make the analisys of a Columbia record.

so i looking for help.

can anyone help me? i would like to know were was the Columbia factory in UK. What mean the codes in the record, and the stamps (i supose they are related with royalties.

The record is a 78 with Faust and Carmen Music, made in England... and the is no date in it.

i could post an image if it helps... i'm realy in need of Help.

Hello, Joao;

If you have 78s on the Columbia label that says "Made in England," it was made (manufactured) in their factory in Hayes, Middlesex, England. The copyrights now belong to EMI.

The numbers stamped into the "dead wax" area usually are the matrix numbers, which the company uses to identify each "take" recorded. Sometimes the catalog number of a record is also there, and matches the number on the record's label.
